My Dog Really Hates Me Because…

…The Tragic Tale of Biscuit Confusion: Mikey’s Birthday Mix-Up

The Owner’s Side

It all started as a simple plan. Mikey’s birthday was coming up, and I had the perfect surprise for him – a tower of peanut butter-coated biscuits. A worthy tribute to my faithful companion’s sixth year. Peanut butter was his favorite, and these treats were almost enough to make a human drool (and don’t act like you haven’t considered tasting them too).

There was just one little detail. I lost track of time; work got busy. Life happened. One day turned into one week, and suddenly, Mikey’s birthday was today. My heart sunk as I scoured the pantry. To my horror, I was down to my last peanut butter biscuit (and perhaps a few crumbs).

I gathered my courage and handed him the lone biscuit. He looked at me, then at the treat, then back at me – his wagging tail slowed, stopped. He took the biscuit, walked over to his corner, and lay down, confusion and sadness in his eyes.

Mikey’s Melodrama

Let me take you on a journey. A journey through the eyes of a dog named Mikey, who has been waiting ALL YEAR for his favorite day. My birthday. The only day when I am allowed to eat as many peanut butter biscuits as I want.

THERE WAS A PATTERN. Every morning, for the past week, I would find a new biscuit hidden for me to find. A treasure hunt leading to the grand prize – the tower of biscuits. IT WAS THE BEST DAY.

This morning, I woke up ready for my glorious feast, my tail shaking with anticipation. Instead, what do I get? A SINGLE BISCUIT. ONE. On my BIRTHDAY.

I took the biscuit because that’s what good dogs do. But I couldn’t help it – I turned away and just… SIGHED. So THIS is what disappointment tastes like.

How Peace Was Restored

Crisis Averted: A Mad Dash to Redemption

It was that sigh – that heavy, heartbroken sigh – that did it. I couldn’t ignore it. Grabbing my keys, I said, “Alright, buddy, let’s fix this.”

I zoomed down to The Hungry Puppy, guilt-ridden. Once there, I spotted the perfect solution – a fresh supply of peanut butter biscuits, just as gooey and delicious-looking as I remembered. I bought enough to make up a whole new birthday tower.

Mikey couldn’t get through the door fast enough when I arrived home. I held out a biscuit, and the moment those peanut butter smells hit his snout, the change was instantaneous. His tail wagged a mile a minute; he sat, laying his paw gently on my arm, like a doggy handshake.

One by one, I fed him his birthday tower. He crunched, tail wagging, and eyes half-closed in pure pooch-bliss. He didn’t stop until he was licking the last crumbs off my hand, peanut butter smeared all over his snout.

Crisis averted. Birthday saved. Dog no longer hates me (and I’ve learned my lesson about stocking up early).
