Owner’s Perspective
It was 7 a.m. on a Monday, and I was preparing for the day ahead with my beloved morning smoothie. Banana, check. Spinach, check. Almond milk, loaded. And last but definitely not least, a scoop of protein powder. But just as I was about to bless the silence of the early morning with the sweet sound of the blender, I remembered Daisy — my soft-hearted hound with the ears of a bat (and the drama of a soap opera star).
Daisy loves silence. She practically thrives on it. Morning naps are her absolute favorite right after breakfast, but there I was about to ruin it all with a kitchen appliance. I paused, blender in hand, weighing my need for a smoothie against my dog’s tranquility. The decision was tough (okay, not really, but humour me here). I chose the smoothie.
Daisy was sound asleep, snuggled up in her favorite corner. I pressed the button, and the blender roared to life. Her ears shot up like rockets, eyes wide with the kind of fear you’d reserve for an alien abduction. And then came the accusatory glare, the look that said, ‘How could you?’ The blender stopped. The damage was done.
Daisy’s Drama
The day started like any other. Breakfast was eaten. Let’s forget it was a few minutes late. I found my favorite corner. Things were peaceful. PERFECT. And then it happened. I heard the shuffling. There was mumbling. I should have known. I should have seen it coming, but I didn’t.
The blender buzzed to life. MY WORLD WAS ENDING. You think I’m being dramatic? Wait till you hear a blender right after a satisfying breakfast. It’s the stuff of nightmares. The noise, the sudden burst of it, was more than my little heart could handle. WHY, human, WHY would you betray me this way?
I opened my eyes. I looked at my human hoping that it was all a mistake. It wasn’t. There she was with the blender, SMOOTHIE OVER LOYALTY. I felt my heart sink. My morning nap was RUINED. I could only retreat to my bed, head down, tail between my legs. DISAPPOINTMENT has a sound, my friend. And it’s the sound of a blender.
The Happy Ending
The guilt hit me like a truck. Seeing Daisy retreat like that, knowing I had upset her with something so trivial, was unbearable. “Alright, Daisy,” I said, grabbing my leash. “Time to make it up to you.”
A quick trip to The Hungry Puppy, and I returned with a new toy—a plush blender, the perfect irony! Maybe if Daisy had her own blender, she wouldn’t be as startled by the real one. It was worth a shot.
To say she loved it would be an understatement. The moment I handed it to her, her tail switched to hyper-speed and her eyes sparkled with pure joy. Every time the toy squeaked, she would prance around, toy in her mouth, as if telling the real blender, ‘I’m not scared of you. I’ve got my own blender now!’
Finally, she settled down, toy blender front and center on her favorite mat, dozing off happily. It was an adorable scene to witness—the dog and her blender—in peaceful coexistence.
Crisis averted. Blender-drama neutralized. Dog no longer hates me (until I actually need to use the real blender again).
