Owner’s Perspective

We’ve all been there, haven’t we? When something you planned doesn’t pan out, and suddenly the day seems darker, like someone flipped off the sun. Well, try explaining that to your excited Golden Retriever who’s been eyeing his leash all day, anticipating our daily visit to the on-site dog park at The Hungry Puppy.

I tried explaining the situation. I pointed at the sign; I used my best regretful-but-empathetic voice. I even tried showing Rocky the notice on the store door (it’s just for a week, buddy, they want the park to be even better for you). But all Rocky saw was me moving to our car without his leash in hand.

The betrayal was clear in his eyes. And the disappointment? Oh, the disappointment! With a droop of his tail and slow retreat to his bed, Rocky made it quite clear where he stood. He glanced my way once, the picture of forlornness and then turned to face the wall. I’d messed up and there was no avoiding it.

Rocky’s Rant

Oh, the treachery! The absolute HEARTBREAK! A dog’s gotta deal with what life throws at them, but an abrupt cancellation of our daily jaunt to the dog park — not cool, human, not cool. They said something about renovations, but here’s my question, have THEY ever had joy only to have it SNATCHED away?

I sulked. I sighed. I sighed some more. Once, I glanced back to see if they noticed. Good. The guilt shows. HOPE YOU’RE FEELING THE REMORSE, HUMAN.

The Happy Ending

All it took was one look at Rocky, laying dramatically in his bed with his back turned, for me to understand I had to act. Girding myself, I picked up my phone and opened the The Hungry Puppy website. As my gaze swept across the site, my eyes fell on the perfect plan-B: the Bacon-Scented Biscuits. Crisis averted. Bacon- scented peace restored. Dog no longer hates me (till the next park visit).
