My Dog Really Hates Me Because…

…The Betrayal of the Unwanted Bath

Owner’s Perspective

It was just a mud puddle! Honestly, I don’t know how that small pit of dirt and water managed to cover every single inch of Daisy’s coat, but the aftermath was something to behold. Trust my Daisy to find the one mud pit in the entire park.

I weighed my options. Dry cleaning, towel scrubbing, or the dreaded… bath. I paused to consider, glanced at Daisy, and made the fatal error of whispering, “Bath time, girl.” Daisy’s ears perked up (at the ‘time girl’ part, who was I kidding?), only to drop when she saw me heading towards the bathroom with the ominous bottle of doggy shampoo.

She sat by the door, clearly hoping for a last-minute reprieve. Her eyes looked at me in disbelief, then at the bathroom, then back at me. When I beckoned her in, she dutifully followed but the wag had disappeared from her tail. It was bath time, and Daisy knew betrayal was in the air.

Daisy’s Tale of Woe

I was JUST having FUN. Playing in the grass, rolling over, maybe detecting a few hidden treasures – you know, DOG stuff. I came home, got the appreciative “who’s a good girl?” I rightfully deserved, and settled down for a peaceful afternoon. But THEN, out of NOWHERE, it happened.

“Bath time, girl.” That’s what SHE said. Can you believe it? After my GRUELING expedition in the park, she decided to reward me with a bath! The ONE thing I despise. “Is there no JUSTICE in our home anymore?” I thought to myself.

The dreaded bottle of soap. The giant tub filled with water. IT WAS REAL. It was happening.

I dutifully walked towards the bathroom. I didn’t make EYE CONTACT. The trust, broken. The peace, ruined. I could only look forward to enduring the water with DIGNITY and some heavy sighs.

Crisis Averted

But oh, the guilt. The wag-less tail, the dropped ears, the silent reproach in Daisy’s eyes. It was more than I could bear. In my guilt-ridden state, I grabbed my keys, dialled up The Hungry Puppy and made an emergency order.

Dry shampoo! A well-recommended, no-water-needed, gentle, soothing dry shampoo. No bathtubs, no soap suds, just a good clean coat for my adventurous Daisy. I ordered one with express delivery (because SOME apologies can’t wait), and hoped for redemption.

The little package arrived within hours. I carefully dusted Daisy with the dry shampoo, gently massaging it into her coat. Her eyes widened with surprise, tail cautiously wagging as the dreaded bath had been replaced with a relaxing rubdown. And then, just like that, peace was restored.

Crisis averted. Daisy freshened up with dignity intact. Dog no longer hates me (until next mud puddle outing).
