My Dog Really Hates Me Because…

… The Day I Forgot the Fetch Frisbee

The Owner’s Perspective

Talk about forgetting a birthday — I forgot something as simple as my dog’s frisbee. Not out of mischief, but in an absent-minded rush of trying to juggle work calls, emails, and a chaotic home environment.

One quick stop to The Hungry Puppy (for treats of course), a fast reverse parking, a quick grab-and-go treat shopping, all while managing work calls. And in the middle of all this hustle, I forgot one tiny detail – my frisbee-fetching, tail-wagging, ever-enthusiastic Cooper’s frisbee. It might sound trivial to the untrained ear, but let me give you a tiny piece of my world; the fetch frisbee is not just a toy, it’s a part of Cooper’s personality.

The flashing of his excitement-filled eyes when he sees me with the frisbee, the shuffle of his tail mirroring the rhythm of his happiness, the full-headed nod in agreement as if he understands every word I say and the edge-of-the-carpet sit-down awaiting his cue to pounce. It’s an evening ritual, his joyous parade. And I forgot it.

His reaction was swift. The wagging tail slowed down, the enthusiastic jump reduced to a reluctant walk, the brightness in his eyes dimmed. Even his cheerful bark was replaced with a low growl. He looked at the empty space where his frisbee usually rests, then back at me. The disappointments were echoing off his every gesture. And guilt, my friends, rushed over me like a waterfall.

Cooper’s Side of Things

Let me tell you, the day was PERFECT. All signs were pointing to an epic game of frisbee.

The sky? A cloudless BLUE. The wind? A gentle BREEZE. My owner? On TIME. I was ready for the thrill of the chase, the exhilaration of that perfect mid-air catch. Fetching the frisbee is not just a game. It’s COSMIC ALIGNMENT. It’s the universe syncing perfectly to create an EPOCH of grandeur, excitement, and tail wagging.

The anticipation was MOUNTING. She was near the cabinet. THAT cabinet. The holy grail of my bliss. She opened it, my heart literally SKIPPED A BEAT. The next few seconds were in slow motion, and then… NOTHING. FRISBEE-LESS. She walked out of the door. WITHOUT THE FRISBEE.

What was happening? Did she FORGET? Does she not CARE about our cosmic bonding anymore? The tail stopped wagging. The excitement turned to heart-wrenching DESOLATION. I just gave her THE LOOK, you know the one – the “You are not the person I thought you were” look.

The Happy Ending

Buoyed by the wave of guilt, I knew I couldn’t let this slide. A happy pup boosts a happy home. Grabbing my keys, I headed out the door with a sense of purpose, ignoring the silent treatment I got from Cooper. Since the regular frisbee wouldn’t make up for my forgetfulness, I knew I needed something special to light those eyes back up.

The Hungry Puppy’s treasure trove had just the answer to my crisis, a bright, new, unblemished Chuckit! Ultra Flyer, a treat even for Cooper’s high standards. It was frisbee upgraded. With my gift secured, I made my way back home.

The minute I walked through the door, Cooper perked up instantly, sniffing the bag excitedly. The moment I unwrapped the Ultra Flyer, you should’ve seen his face! His tail wagged so fast it could propel us into space. His eyes twinkled brighter than the North Star, his bark echoed with unparalleled HAPPINESS. The silent treatment was long forgotten. We headed out for an impromptu frisbee session; he ran, jumped, fetched, and brought back the frisbee like a winner returning with a gold medal.

Crisis averted. Game upgraded. Dog no longer hates me (at least until the next frisbee incident).
