Owner’s Perspective
Every day, it’s the same routine. I refill Lola’s food dish, refresh her water and wipe her treats bowl clean. Then, dutifully, I sprinkle her favorite peanut butter treats in the sparkling bowl – a promise of delights to come. And with each flavorful bite, her familiar bright eyes cast me a look of gratitude and trust.
Yesterday, I opened the pantry, just like every day. But as I reached for the bag – empty. I’d forgotten to get a refill. “It’s okay,” I reasoned. “She won’t notice if we skip one day.” Talking directly at Lola’s curious face, I assured her, “Tomorrow, buddy, fresh batch, I promise.”
But the moment of betrayal was stark. Lola gazed into her empty bowl, then looked back to me. Her ears dropped on both sides, her wagging tail froze mid-air. Her bright eyes, previously filled with trust and hope, reflected a mirror of sorrow – a testament of broken promises.
Lola’s Version of Events
Let’s get one thing straight. I cherish every moment I spend with my human. We’ve got this bonding thing going on – a good pat, a relaxing walk, a playtime session…all fantastic. But let’s not downplay the importance of TREAT TIME. It’s like Christmas, but daily. It’s the stuff dog dreams are made of.
But yesterday? YESTERDAY WAS NOT A DOG’S DREAM. As usual, my food came in, water poured out, and there I was, tail wagging in wild expectation. But when the treats bowl came into sight, my heart sunk like a helpless puppy in a bathtub. EMPTY. No peanut-buttery-goodness. Just a big, sad, EMPTY bowl. Tell me, how does one cope with such DEVASTATING DISAPPOINTMENT?
I sniffed the bowl, just in case. Perhaps my human had forgotten to pop them in? Nothiń… just the clean scent of BETRAYAL. I sighed the SIGH OF THE HEARTBROKEN, tail tucked in. I retreated to the farthest corner of my soft bed, balled up, and let the weary realm of sleep be my solace.
Dark Days are Over
Crisis Averted
Enough was enough – the silent reproach, the elongated sighs, the look of hurt in Lola’s eyes. An unbearable wall of guilt was closing in on me. Grabbing my keys, I thought about the promise I’d made to her.
Thanks to the amazing staff at The Hungry Puppy, Lola’s preferred peanut butter treats were in stock. I saw an array of enriching bully sticks, an assortment of freeze-dried treats, but her delicacy was invaluable. I knew the exceptional quality would bring a glow back to her cloudy eyes and drooping tail.
As I entered the house, bag rustling in hand, Lola perked up. Placing the peanut butter treats I’d procured into her bowl, her eyes lit up, and a merry prance replaced her previously forlorn stride. Excitement bubbled, her tail wagged, echoing her pulsating heartbeat. And at the very first bite, her world was set right again.
The house was filled again with sound as Lola crunched away happily. Her wagging tail became merrily rhythmic, and she got back into her lively self, showing me her flippy tricks in gratitude. She snuggled in next to me, the force of the betrayal fading with each passing minute.
Crisis averted. Becoming Lola’s peanut butter hero. Dog no longer hates me (until we run out again).
