Owner’s Perspective
A busy work day with back-to-back meetings, and by the time I was done, my brain was porridge (the overcooked kind, if you get my meaning). So, I did what any reasonable person would do. I plopped onto the couch, remote in hand, ready to binge-watch “The Great British Bark Off” (Daisy and I are huge fans).
But, as I was settling into the fluffiness of my throw pillows, a nagging feeling hit me — something about Daisy. The usual tail wags that accompanied the hum of the intro tune were missing. I turned to find Daisy, my usually enthusiastic Labrador, sitting across the room, staring at me with narrowed eyes and a droopy tail. That’s when I realized, I’d forgotten to take Daisy to her favorite Wagging Tail Club at The Hungry Puppy.
“Oh no… I forgot…” I said softly to myself. Daisy’s betrayal was palpable — she lay down, turned away, and heaved the biggest sigh I’ve ever heard from a dog. Suffice it to say, I felt a stab of guilt, right there in the middle of my chest. I mean, who forgets a dog club meeting that has the word ‘wagging’ right there in its title?!
Daisy Decodes:
Now let me tell you, it was WAGGING TAIL CLUB DAY. I had been wagging my tail from the moment I woke up. I even forgave the absence of bacon for breakfast because I knew it was Wagging Tail Club day.
And then, the unthinkable happened. We did NOT go. The door stayed closed. The leash remained hanging, and the car keys were silent on the kitchen counter. Imagine my disbelief!
You think giving me an extra belly rub is going to make up for my missing out on aggressive tail wagging, playful barks, and sniffing butts? EXCUSE ME? Is nothing sacred to you anymore?!
Happy Ending
Let’s just say, not all guilt can be passive. Mine was more of a flashlight under the blankets kind, gnawing at me, showing me Daisy’s betrayed expression from every angle. That’s when I decided, “Alright Daisy, let’s settle this once and for all.” Grabbing my keys, I made an emergency call to The Hungry Puppy.
Like a fairy dog-mother, The Hungry Puppy came to my rescue with a lifesaver — they had started a virtual Wagging Tail Club. Praise the dog heavens! I booked Daisy in for the next session immediately.
The minute she saw her friends pop onto the screen, the part of Daisy that I intimately knew was back. She barked in delight, tail thumping against the hardwood floor in swift movements. The sighs of betrayal were replaced with ends of satisfaction.
Crisis averted. Tail wagging restored. Dog no longer hates me (or insists I use her dog calendar meetings as my wallpaper).
