Owner’s Perspective
Let me paint a picture for you. Picture a perfect day at our local park, the sun is warm, a gentle breeze is in air, and Baxter and I have our favorite frisbee. The world is incredibly peaceful, until the unforgivable happens… the frisbee shatters.
Here I am, leaving Baxter to chase shadows, reflecting on how I ruined a perfect game of fetch. This wasn’t any old frisbee. It was his favorite chewable, size-perfect frisbee we got from The Hungry Puppy ages ago. I knew better than to let him chew between throws, but those puppy dog eyes…(yeah you know the ones). Baxter looked up at me, all ears pricked, eyes widened, waiting for the next throw and then… nothing but chunks of plastic raining down.
Sure, I tried to gloss over the situation, excitedly pointing towards random twigs, leaves, and even my shoe… but nothing took. Baxter’s usually wagging tail hung still, his expression was unmistakably one of deep betrayal. Baxter looked at the shattered frisbee, then at me, let out a sigh, and proceeded to amble off to a shady tree, ignoring me completely.
Baxter’s Post-Betrayal Banter
Ah, the park, the perfect playground for an energetic pup like me. Trees to sniff, balls to chase, other dogs to play with, and the best part – FRISBEE FETCH. It’s the highlight of my day when Dad takes out that one specific frisbee.
IT WAS PERFECT. I was READY. Dad had my FULL ATTENTION. We were having THE BEST GAME OF FETCH in the history of forever. And then, THE ULTIMATE BETRAYAL. The frisbee broke into a million pieces right in front of my eyes. My tail stopped wagging instantly.
I mean, what was he thinking? TWIGS? LEAVES? HIS SHOE? Does he think I don’t know the difference? I am a dignified dog. I am NOT easily fooled. I walked away, EVERYTHING WAS RUINED.
The Happy Ending
The guilt was overwhelming. I couldn’t take Baxter’s silent treatment any longer. I grabbed my keys, and made a beeline for The Hungry Puppy. They had a whole collection of fun frisbees, but one in particular caught my eye – A KONG Flyer. Durable, ideal size for Baxter, and red – his favorite color.
Intrigued by the new toy, Baxter gave it a good sniff, a gentle nibble, and then looked at me with hopeful eyes. I launched this one into the air, and let me tell you, never have I seen Baxter’s tail wag so fast. My heart soared with the frisbee. Forgiven at last, I joined Baxter in his joyful frolic.
Crisis averted. Fetch session restored. Dog no longer hates me (and I have a new frisbee on standby, just in case).
