The Owner’s Side
You know that moment when you wake up and something just feels… off? Not quite right? That was my morning. And then it hit me – Bolt and I hadn’t been on our morning walk. Bolt’s morning walk wasn’t just a necessity; it was a tradition, a moment we shared, a sacred ritual. But sleep had claimed me and cheated my innocent pup of his dawn adventure.
Bolt was patient. Bolt was kind. He didn’t judge me when I realized my error (okay, maybe there was a brief look of concern). “Just a little while longer, buddy,” I told him (and more importantly, myself). Bolt’s tail wagged slower, his ears drooped, and a sigh escaped his snout.
As I sat down to work, Bolt repositioned himself at the foot of the stairs, the usual starting point for our walk. His optimism pierced my heart as he wagged his tail, ever hopeful yet sensitive to my reality.
Bolt’s Perspective: The Betrayal Chronologue
My human is GOOD. She KNOWS what I need. She knows the morning walk is my cardio, my social hour, my squirrel surveillance duty. I WOKE UP READY. Tail on point. Sniff game strong. Until it wasn’t.
The air was still, the world waiting for us to make our grand entrance, BUT WE DIDN’T. I heard the dreaded words – the ones a dog like me should never have to hear: “Just a little while longer.”
HELLO? Earth to human? Have you forgotten who you’re talking to? I am Bolt. I am the morning scout. The chief squirrel tracker. The neighborhood greeter. Call me dramatic, but my whole routine was thrown out of balance.
How Peace Was Restored
But as I looked into those pleading eyes, a solution formed in my heart. I couldn’t rewind time for the missed walk, but maybe… just maybe I could offer compensation. I rushed to my car, drove to the haven we lovingly know as The Hungry Puppy, and browsed the aisles for the holy grail – Bolt’s favorite, bacon-flavored chew sticks.
Returning back, I was met by a new Bolt. His tail was wagging like a metronome set to fast forward. His eyes lit up brighter than a star, and the chew stick was devoured in seconds. The sigh that followed wasn’t just content, it was downright blissful.
Crisis averted. Order restored. Dog no longer hates me (until the next drowsy morning catastrophe)
