My Dog Really Hates Me Because…

…The Day That Breakfast Was Late: A Tale of Tail Betrayals

The Morning Confessions of a Sleepy Pet Parent

The alarm didn’t go off. Or maybe, I snoozed it one too many times. Okay, fine, I kept hitting snooze until my dog, Daisy, was practically pawing at my face. I thought the delay in breakfast would be forgivable, a minor offense in the grand scheme of things. Little did I know that my furry alarm clock took such matters very seriously.

You see, Daisy and I have a morning routine. It’s as predictable as the sunrise. After she nudges me awake, we head to the kitchen where she trots in circles around me in anticipation of that crunchy kibble she inexplicably prefers over bacon. I’m not complaining—cheaper grocery bills, am I right? But that morning, our routine went awry. I shuffled into the kitchen… and reached for the coffee pot before her food bowl.

The look on Daisy’s face… pure betrayal. Her ears drooped. Her tail, which was wagging moments ago, suddenly stopped, hanging motionless in the air. She looked at the empty food bowl, then at me, then back at the bowl. Heartbreaking doesn’t begin to cover it.

Daisy Unleashes Her Drama

My human. MY HUMAN. Our morning pact was BROKEN. I saw the CLEAR prioritization of coffee over kibble. DISRESPECTFUL. What happened to our routine? What happened to our TRUST?

I’ve ALWAYS been a good girl. A LOYAL companion. I’ve brought thrown balls back every.single.time. But now, as my belly growled and my tail hung low, I questioned everything.

My breakfast was LATE. A WHOLE three minutes late! How far is too far? How could she take our sacred morning ritual and just… RUIN it? She brushed my horrified look off with a pat on the head and a mumbled ‘sorry, girl.’ A PAT. Really? A pat and ‘sorry’ do NOT fill an empty tummy.

I walked away. It was all I could do. I flopped onto my dog bed and let out a sigh that echoed through the house.

Breakfast Breakdown: How Peace Was Restored

After what felt like the longest sigh in the world, guilt consumed me. I had upset my girl. Her usual spark was missing, replaced with the chill of my cold, cold betrayal. I couldn’t handle it. Swallowing my last sip of coffee, I adjusted my priorities as a dog mom. It was time to make it right.

The solution was simple, but it needed to pack a punch to erase the despair in Daisy’s eyes: a special breakfast from The Hungry Puppy. The gourmet freeze-dried dog food we both loved. With heart pounding, I placed an order.

Once the package arrived, Daisy sniffed the parcel, her tail twitching a little. I opened the packed duck, turkey, and sardine freeze-dried delight from Stella & Chewy’s. The aroma filled the room, and Daisy’s tail began to wag. Oh, how it wagged! She sat in front of me, eyes sparkling with anticipation. Each crunch echoed through the room and her tail didn’t stop wagging.

Crisis averted. Wagging restored. Dog no longer hates me (although alarm clock duties might be reassigned).
