Owner’s Perspective
Have you ever tried to put your entire faith in a cheeseburger? That’s what I did this morning. That’s what I believed could save both of us. That’s what I whispered to myself on the way from our vet visit.
You see, Stella (my adorable yet full-of-spunk black Labrador) needed to go for her routine vaccination. She hates the vet. But, who can blame her? Who likes needles, to be honest? Plus, she always has this puzzled look on her face that says, “I trusted you, and you brought me here?” However, the vet is necessary (to keep her healthy!) and so, this morning, to make things bearable for both Stella and me, I made her the Famous Burger Promise (you know, a homemade beef patty with a hint of cheese, her favorite).
Driving back home from the vet, Stella looked up at me with her accusing ‘you betrayed me’ eyes (again, I repeat, who likes needles?). Trying to calm her down, I reminded her of the Famous Burger Promise, and her eyes lit up. Hope returned.
Stella’s Side of Things
I TRUSTED her. I believed in the BURGER. I got a NEEDLE for the BURGER.
There I was at the vet’s office, literally the WORST place on Earth. I thought it was going to be a fun car ride, maybe even a park visit! But NO.
Suddenly, it all came crashing down. The smells, the sounds, the betrayal. And then, as if things could not get worse, THE NEEDLE. After the NEEDLE, all I could think about was the BURGER. The BURGER was my only lifeline. My human promised me a BURGER. She wouldn’t break her promise, right?
Crisis Averted
Back home, I walked to the kitchen with Stella following my every move, her eyes gleaming with excitement and anticipation for THE BURGER. Then my heart sunk. I was out of ground beef. The dreaded discovery. The betrayal part two. Her tail dropped. She knew.
Suddenly, I remembered The Hungry Puppy’s freeze-dried meat treats that we stored in case of emergencies. I know what you’re thinking – is running out of burger meat a real emergency? If you looked at Stella’s face, you’d know it was.
I opened a new bag of Primal Freeze-Dried Nuggets. Grain-free, packed with all the nutrients, and made with beef. I put it on Stella’s favorite plate, and waited.
She took a cautious sniff, as if half expecting another betrayal. But then, her eyes widened. It was like I could see her doggy brain going, “BEEF? Is that you?” Now, I don’t know if it was the nuggets or the relief that we just avoided World War III, but Stella’s entire demeanor changed. Her tail started wagging like a locomotive train. She began chomping down on the treats, blissful.
Crisis averted. Treat crisis now officially recognized as a real emergency. Dog no longer hates me (I guess I’d better stock up on some extra nuggets.)
To avoid breaking all your burger promises (and trust me you want to avoid that), head over to The Hungry Puppy.’Cause sometimes, it’s less about the form of the meat, and more about the taste.
